2 6 Scarce resources and the efficiency revolution

In these times of crisis and uncertainty, it is more important than ever to have a solid point of reference. The principles of social and environmental responsibility are valuable benchmarks for investors, not only for their capacity to limit risks, but also for their capacity to provide unexpected growth opportunities. In this issue we have decided to look at two such opportunities: The first concerns increasingly rare natural resources; in terms of managing water, energy and other commodities it has become vital to do more with less. The success of efficiency improvements is both reassuring and encouraging. The second opportunity is social entrepreneurship, which dates back some ten years, and which has experienced steady growth since then, underpinned by the success of microfinance and social development funds. SRI, which has traditionally been the prerogative of institutional investors, is now attracting more and more private banking clients as well as the wider public. This is why our round table, which previously brought together institutional clients and consultants, this time focuses on the views of three distributors from Belgium, the Netherlands and Norway. One conclusion is already clear: SRI attracts investors with greater transparency and high returns. Two big arguments in favour of investing with a purpose! I hope you enjoy this issue.
